Description
Dear Learner,
Welcome to Grade 10 Chemistry Module 2, an engaging and comprehensive course designed to deepen your understanding of chemical principles and their real-world applications.
This module provides a comprehensive introduction to electrochemistry and their practical applications. Students will explore the occurrence and extraction of some important metals and nonmetals and their properties. They will investigate hydrocarbons and their natural sources. This module prepares students for advanced chemistry studies and real-world applications.
Competencies
At the end of this module students will be able to:
- Analyze Energy Changes in Reactions: Demonstrate the ability to describe and interpret energy changes that occur in chemical reactions.
- Understand Electrochemical Cells: Differentiate between voltaic and electrolytic cells, and describe the three types of voltaic cells.
- Master Electrolysis Processes: Write accurate oxidation and reduction half-reactions, and describe the cell reactions for electrolysis of molten electrolytes.
- Investigate Elements and Their Uses: Describe the extraction processes, chemical properties, and practical applications of key elements, including aluminum, iron, copper, nitrogen, phosphorus, oxygen, sulfur, and chlorine.
- Compare Metals and Nonmetals: Explain the general properties of metals and nonmetals, and their implications for chemical behavior.
- Apply Organic Chemistry Principles: Classify organic compounds, write their general formulas, and name simple hydrocarbons, including their branched-chain variations. Demonstrate understanding of isomerism and draw possible isomers for alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes.
- Examine Hydrocarbons: Describe the physical and chemical properties, general preparation methods, and reactions of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, and benzene.
