In this activity, you’ll prepare to listen to a passage about poverty in Ethiopia by thinking about the topic, learning key vocabulary, and making some predictions. Follow the steps below to get ready for the listening task.
1.1 Understanding Poverty
Pre-listening Activity: Understanding Poverty
1. Warm-Up Discussion
- Reflect on these questions and dot down your thoughts:
- What comes to mind when you hear the word “poverty”?
- What challenges do you think people living in poverty face every day?
- What are some causes of poverty that you know about, either in Ethiopia or around the world?
2.Vocabulary Preview
- Review these key words that will come up in the listening passage: necessities, corruption, illiteracy, unemployment, consequences, policies, employability, and alleviate.
- Look up any words you’re not familiar with or think about what they might mean. Then, in your own words, write a definition or an example sentence for each term. You can use an online dictionary if needed.
3.Prediction Exercise
- The listening passage will cover poverty in Ethiopia, its causes, effects, and potential solutions.
- In a few sentences, answer these questions in your notes:
- What do you think are some causes of poverty in Ethiopia?
- How might poverty impact a person’s daily life and health?
- What are some solutions you think could help reduce poverty over time?
4. Focused Listening Task
- During the listening activity, focus on identifying the causes, effects, and solutions to poverty as described in the passage. Take notes on any details that stand out to you.

I didn’t touch any thing but it says your lesson 1 and 2 test is failed. what shall I do
